All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, charges, and your responsibilities related to the rental. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the latter will take priority.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To rent a vehicle from Car Hire in Consett, drivers must be at least 21 years old, though specific age limits may apply based on the vehicle type. A valid full driving licence is required, held for the duration stipulated in the Rental Agreement. Renters must also present valid identification, proof of address, and payment information, including a security deposit. Additional criteria may be outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be completed via our website, over the phone, or directly at our Consett location. A booking deposit may be needed to confirm your reservation. The total payment and a security deposit are usually required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- It is important to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the vehicle at the time of collection, ensuring that any pre-existing damage is reported without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and signed by both parties. The vehicle must be returned in its original condition, accounting for standard wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Please return the vehicle with the same fuel level it had upon collection; refueling fees will apply if the tank is not adequately filled. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please notify us promptly if you expect to return the vehicle later than agreed. You will be held responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Policies
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. You will find comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts outlined in the Rental Agreement. Additional insurance options may be offered to help lower your financial liability, so reviewing these is prudent. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess, unless you opt for extra coverage. Damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms is entirely your responsibility, regardless of any insurance.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up may incur additional fees.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or any hazardous driving practices. Transporting dangerous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is forbidden. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly against our policy. Additionally, using the vehicle for purposes it was not intended for, exceeding passenger or weight limits, or operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries without prior approval is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental cancellation and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Consett will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the amount paid for your rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury due to negligence or fraud.
9. Local Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England and Wales.
10. Terms Updates
We may update these Terms periodically. Changes take effect as soon as they are published on our website. Continued use of our services indicates your acceptance of the revised Terms.
